Day Van Hire

Day Van Hire

Hiring a van can be ideal for delivering or transporting goods from one place to another. The flexibility of van hire is also something that appeals to many people - vans are available from one day van hire to long term hire over a number of months.

One day van hire

One day van hire is popular with many people and is ideal for moving house or business as well as collecting items from a store or warehouse such as new furniture or garden equipment. Quite often when moving items such as furniture between locations a car is not quite big enough; van hire has now become a cheap enough option that a car is not needed.

The price of one day van hire will depend on the company you choose to hire from and the kind of van needed. Companies on a local level may be able to offer you a cheaper quote than nationwide companies. However, nationwide companies can offer various collection and delivery points.

A small van such as VW Caddy or a Vauxhall Combo will be a lot cheaper to hire than larger vehicles such as a Luton or a LWB Ford Transit. The choice of van will depend on what is being transported; large items such as home or office furniture will benefit from a Luton style van complete with tail lift for easy lifting. A larger van can carry up to 3500 kg which is beneficial for heavy commercial and domestic goods. A smaller van is ideal for small domestic and commercial items such as small items of furniture; they can generally carry around 625 kg.

Quotes for van Hire

Getting various quotes before booking one day van hire is essential and you will need to be sure about exactly what you need from the van. Companies will have different policies on:
  • Insurance
  • Deposit
  • Mileage
  • Extras
Insurance should generally come in the quoted price and be fully comprehensive; some companies only cover the vehicle and the passengers and may not cover the goods in transit whereas other companies may charge extra fees to insure the goods.

The majority of hire firms will charge a deposit on the vehicle, the deposit will be fully returned upon the safe return of the vehicle however, any damage to the vehicle whilst in the customers care and the deposit may to held back to fund repairs.

Some hire firms offer unlimited mileage on their vehicles and others will have a mileage allowance that once passed will be charged per mile. For instance a van can be hired with an allowance of 150 miles for the day, once passed there will be a charge for each mile (usually between 10p and 20p).

Sometimes people may require any extras on the van to help secure items in transit, such as:
  • Towbars
  • Trolleys
  • Ropes
  • Blankets
These items do not usually come with the van and are generally charged as extras, they will need to be requested when getting a quote for the van hire.
